If gays want some sort of legal status between themselves, I'm okay with it. But to allow them actual "marriage" is a gross imposition on the tens of millions of people who view marriage as being inherently a religious relationship.

I don't think that gays want to impose on anyone elses church wedding. All they want is the legal status for the purpose of protecting property and spousal benefits.

Gay marriage will never be the same as the hetero marriage you speak of, it just can't be the same for all of those reasons.

I agree that some sort of of civil union should be allowed.
