I agree with you, it's for oil, but not totally. I think some small fraction of going to war was:

1. "they tried to kill my dad"
2. They're criticizing poppy for not taking Saddam down

I think these two factors made Bush susceptible to the neocons arguments. Then there's Cheney wanting to shovel cash to Halliburton. I think we just bought a long-term hellhole. Watch it turn into Lebanon.
