Mike, every Christian is taught that the Jews were complicit in Jesus' death. However, we're also taught that the Jews were the chosen people and through Jesus the rest of us were brought into the fold and promised eternal life. So the central message is that the Jews and Romans were a conduit for God's will, which was to create a way for the gentiles to receive God's grace. There isn't any room in that message for anti-semitism.

Jews have several millenia worth of reasons to carry the paranoia chip around on their shoulders and the last century probably provided the best reasons of all to be paranoid. However, that doesn't make Mel an anti-semite and it certainly doesn't mean that all the paranoid accusations are correct.

Having said that, I personally believe that Europe is ridiculously anti-semite and if there is any group of people the world should be wary of, it should be the Muslims, whose Koran talks ceaselessly about killing the People of the Book (Christians and Jews).

If anything, Jews and Christians share a great deal. And most Christians sympathize with Jews more than Muslims. So the Jews' fears about Mel's Passion is really entirely misplaced. They should be venting most of their anger and paranoia at Europe and the Hague where their paranoia would turn out to be well justified.
