Last week I got the free version of AVG from Grisoft. It ran for a very long time the first time and found 27 different viruses on my machine. I scheduled it to run again that midnight and it found 6 more. It kills them or buries them. I'll never be without this thing. Especially after spending hours yesterday dealing with a Trojan Horse.
