Enron Lobbyist Plotted White House Strategy: As if it weren't bad enough that Karl Rove got a job for Republican strategist Ralph Reed with Enron. Edward Gillespie was a top communications aide for Bush's campaign, who later helped Don Evans with the Commerce Department transition. Gillespie's firm was simultaneously hired to lobby for Enron and it earned $700,000 for its lobbying efforts on the company's behalf. Gillespie wrote policy memos and conservative campaign strategy that was used to bash California Governor Gray Davis during last year's energy crisis in the West. Gillespie was also the director of 21st Century Energy Project, a group that produced pro-Bush energy plan advertisements. Is Gillespie, an Enron lobbyist and Republican strategist, one of the private citizens Cheney met with while formulating the energy policy? We have a right to know.
