Blocks of frozen water on my roof and the icicle formed when the fittings crack under cold weather. Without a compessor you just can't get the heat transfer to get the hot tub up to temperature here in the northwest.

There are systems designed to overcome these problems. Again though, solar energy is not ideal everywhere.
