That's for the independence freaks that want to take it to an extreme. It much easier to feed it back into the grid. You will probably never become a net energy contibutor, but savings of 40%, 50% certainly help.

I've never argued that this was a solution; the solution is a bunch of incremental improvements. Solar and hybrid/electric cars happen to the two of the best, and are doable right now. Articles I've read say the next generation of solar panels are going to be more efficient and cheaper.

Another incremental improvement would be to outlaw incandescent bulbs. Replace them all with compact fluorescent, save about 75% in energy AND the bulb price is cheaper over the product lifetime.

Why does anyone buy incandescent? Don't ask me.
