forgot ... I left out Reindeer.
I'm an ex farm boy. Not really afraid of eating beef per se, but the recent episode pissed me off. I tried to read a fair amount about what happened. It appears to me the Bushies and the greedy Cattlemen had more than ample op to strengthen oversight over the last few years, and prevent the situation that occurred. Instead they chose the ST course, influenced by greed, and got kicked in the nuts by a bull. That happened to me a time or two on the farm as well. As I recall it smarted.
I'm tired of this shit. I do expect that our gov't should protect its citizens, in various ways, and I see damn little of that going on. Instead it seems big money is in absolute control. That will change over the course of the next 6/8 yrs imho. It will be an interesting change, but I think our country up for it and will make it through in flying colors. Least that is my position now.
I lived in Europe for a while. I think some of our husbandry (animal rearing methods) techniques have come from them, where they are constrained for resources, namely land. I'm not against eating meat, including beef. But it bothers me that much of it is now being raised in factories, and that the food chain supplied is far different than natural. I'm basically against most of all that ... i.e. all the hormone supplements as well.
There is a little farming area south of here, I'm told they have all range raised Buffalo, Reindeer, etc. So .... we've been eating a little buffalo meet, and have our own personal supply of fish caught by ourselves. Fish up here are probably about as polutant free as anywhere. Going to head down and check out how they raise the meat, with my own eyes. If I retire soon, and I might, I plan to start bird hunting again, for the poultry portion. Give me something to do besides yack with you. Might even go moose hunting, although I don't like to shoot big wild game, except with camera.
Who knows maybe in a few years it will be so tough we will all have a few chickens, pigs and milk cow in the back yard. |
