Why? Without his death there could be no redemption, regardless of how exemplary a life he lived.

"Inmho this is probably the last thing the Jesus of the scriptures would want as his legacy because the violence twists what he was all about, whether one accepts him as God or a great man"

What he was all about is making a tremendous sacrifice for the benefit of man.

"This movie may have less to do with the jews or romans and more to say about Christians who promote this story over all the other good things Jesus was involved with in his life."

The good things he did with his life really aren't terribly relevant, they are not the foundation of Christianity ... but for his horrible death there would be no Christianity.
