Dave,
Wouldn't it be a fairly simple to write a program to fix all of these problems?

1. Title must Start with A-Z or 0-9; if not Remove...
2. Scan for "<" or ">"; if found, Remove them and their contents.
3. If any changes, update disk records.

After testing, run it and get it over with... (?????)

Isn't it going to take a few years to do it by hand?
