Cyberstar is a geostationary system - no good for phone calls. Whereas the Motorola Iridium replacement will be CDMA based low earth orbit.

Sorry, I didn't get Bob's surname. As far as cutting edge goes and satellite systems, the half-life of software, chips and other electronic gizzardry is so short that it is pretty dodgey to have to depend on it for 7 whole long years!!! Who is still using the same computer they were 7 years ago? Heck, I just bought ANOTHER computer today. MMX with a big number coming after it, gigabytes of hard drive, 24 rpm or something CD-ROM, 33K modem, and now I am just the cat's pyjamas. Later this year I get a satellite dish on my roof to download 1.5 megabytes per second [no fibre etc near here sadly]. I even bought an external Iomaniac Zip Drive. And the speakers are great. Life is getting better, little by little, day by day, year by year. And soon we will have W-CDMA and Globalstar coming over the horizon.

I really can't see launching being much of a problem for any of the systems.

Because Iridium costs so much more per subscriber, they have to make less money than Globalstar. But the cost of the share to acquire those profits needs to be carefully checked.
