The "pop culture" part of it is going to be interesting.

I had CNN on in the early hours this morning and saw a few odd things. One of them was the spike necklaces they said were sold in Christian stores to complement this movie. It looked like a giant nail on a rope necklace. Twenty bucks. I will try not to gape if I run into one on the street.

Also saw something that struck even me as culturally odd along the lines of what folks here often fuss about. The anchor was chatting with a reporter at another site and asked for an update on the movie. The reporter didn't just jump into the status but started with background, patiently setting up the story by explaining, and I don't remember his exact words, that this was significant because Jesus Christ was the subject of Christianity. Like there's anyone on the face of the planet who doesn't know that. Then they showed a pie chart of how religions broke down in the US. Perhaps his bit was written for an international audience, but even so, it seemed odd.

They all seem to say the same thing.

I read some of the reviews when I first saw the link this morning. I found it odd, too, the way they assigned reviews to negative and positive categories. There were a lot that seemed a bit of each and some of those assigned as positive weren't any more positive than some assigned as negative.

Even odder was the rating. It doesn't sound suitable for kids to me. I couldn't tolerate that degree of brutality without risking nightmares so I sure wouldn't take a kid to see it. It will be interesting to see if there are any follow up stories on traumatized kids.
