The State and Federal governments should either get out of the marriage business

i have no problem with that

my point is if we let the state decide who can get married then it seems to me it can also decide who cannot get married.

i can think of all sorts of "unions" that could seek state sanction under the equal protection clause to the point that the very idea of "marriage" is meaningless...

and at this point getting the state out of the marriage "business" entirely is something i would consider a worthwhile thing.

in other words if it comes down to *any* union should sanctioned legally by the state, then *none* should
