David " Why can't this company sell their product?"

'Cause it's a little teeny weeny company -- the same 50 or so employees it had 5 years ago.

That means they are, at best, designers using mostly or entirely off the shelf components. The companies that actually make their stuff have more janitors than SCKT has employees.

It also means the company is not likely to have cutting edge technology, and their profit margins will always be lower than giant companies who can do it ALL in house - design, built the chips including the latest designs, and distribute.

It also means that this forces SCKT to address niche markets -- things like bluetooth before those technologies were widespread. This gives SCKT the illusion of hightech (being in bluetooth before other bigger companies bothered); but really they are sacrifical lambs, testing the waters before larger companies sell cheaper stuff (cheaper because they don't have to contract out manufacture).

Consider also that cards are ALWAYS a niche market -- if any gets popular enough, the functionality moves INSIDE the device. Consider how you don't need 802.11 cards (WiFi) anymore -- the chips are inside laptops and PDAs now. Ditto bluetooth. This keeps SCKT's market small -- limited to early adopters (before bluetooth is in laptops) and late adopters (people still using old computers without chips inside).

Basically, SCKT's plan is flawed. It's a swell little company and may be around for a long time, but don't be fooled by its pump-driven binge of 2000: this company's revenues aren't doubling, and they won't double, and its stock price won't double. It's tiny and likely to stay that way a long time.
