Well as a Republican, you should be an expert on raising the deficit. This administration is the worst ever.

I agree that the administration has been irresponsible in its spending habits but it is at best misleading to say this administration is the worst ever in terms of deficit spending. The economy and government spending continue to go up and the value of the dollar continues to go down. Measured in terms of %of GDP I don't think this administration is the worst. Measured any way you want I think the deficits and the spending that causes them are too high, but too high is not the same as worst ever.

Where are you getting these numbers? Off the top of your head?

Only the 2% was off the top of my head. The rest was contained in your statements (30 to 40% savings) or was simple math.

It may have a 17 payback on a 25 year investment, but it produces results, NOW.

17 or 25 years to payback an investment generally isn't considered results. In many ways when you consider the time value of money and the lost opportunity to do other things with the money its a net loss.

I think the difference between us on this issue is that energy independence is for you the goal. For me it would at best be a means to a goal and it isn't an obviously good means to get to a high probability of meeting an important goal. If no oil imports is the specific goal then yes more solar energy makes sense even if it would only be a very small part of meeting that goal.

What, exactly, is your alternative.

My alternative is to leave things up to the free market whenever possible. Or to put it another way my alternative is that I don't have a goal of no oil imports for the US.
