You cant debase the const by trying to use the amendment proceedure.

I disagree with that. I think it debases the Constitution, at least that part of that specifies amending the Constitution, to amend it other than as a last resort and for something of monumental importance. Some may see the latter criterion met, but the former surely is not.

I don't worry about the outcome of this. I am just bothered by the lack of solemnity in this. It sounds like the Congress may have an appropriate degree if solemnity, though, even if the Prez doesn't.
