re:"I find that claim highly suspicious. I don't recall
Clinton's draft dodging was not a major news item in 1992 "

I 've just done a Google search and got 7400 hits on stories about Clinton's "draft dodging"....

Here's a link for you:

uaw.org

"Vietnam veteran, set the tone by asking why George W. Bush got a free ride from the media regarding reports that he was AWOL during most of the time he served in the National Guard during the Vietnam war.

"Let me give you some statistics," responded panelist Paul Begala, "I worked for Bill Clinton in 1992 and …in anticipation of this very question, I looked this up on Nexis. There were 13,641 stories about Bill Clinton 'dodging the draft' …and there were 49 stories about Bush and the National Guard," Begala said.

Conceding that Bush had generally gotten a "gentle ride" during the campaign from the press, Howard Fineman drew a loud protest from the crowd when he suggested that the press wasn't as aggressive with regard to Bush because the scandals of the Clinton years had "exhausted" the press and the public. "

Have you looked at all those videos???? I haven't and won't, but I saw them when they played and my memory is good. Dole would have been foolish not to play his war service.
