Steve:

I'm no expert on brokerages (but I've gotten pretty good at complaining about them <G>). To my knowledge, Datek's 'Island' is the only way for the public to make Nasdaq trades directly from buyer to seller without an intermediary. I've started following the Datek thread, and it is pretty clear that they have some problems too. Like the nursery rhyme, they can be "... very very good, but when they're bad, they're horrid."

I'm "broker shopping," and have just about come to the conclusion that switching brokers is mostly a matter of switching current problems for a new set of problems. From what I've seen, there is no such thing as a "good" broker. If Datek resolves their access problems and starts to actually respond to customer complaints, they will be #1 on my "switch to" list.

Hope this helped a little.

Good trading,

jim
