Where do you think they got the term “Making a martyr of someone” from?

One reason to NOT execute Saddam but let him rot in jail in disgrace is to prevent him from becomming a martyr for the terrorists.

I don wanna start a debate on religion here, but the Romans turned Jesus, a very enlightened man at the very least, into a martyr for his people to the point he was elevated to a god. Over 2,000 years later, people are still killing in his name.
