Good Call, excardog. I might Offer up the COI...

The Cultural Obsession Index. It could track falling incidences of stories about economic reality and rising incidences of printed stories about cultural obsession and culture conflicts. Not dissimilar to the Economist's "recession" tracker. (and would probably be as useless.)

The COI also has the advantage of being the first three letters to a familiar, Latin verb.
