They could jail Claire Short for this. And they should.

The little understanding I have of the British Official Secrets Act suggests that she could be prosecuted. Short knows her politics, however, and is a decent street fighter, addled as she might appear to be. It is unlikely that Blair would risk the political consequences of a trial in which bugging of the Sec. General is the issue.

The bugging, however, if it took place, would be plainly stupid for all kinds of reasons. The head of the UN as a presumably neutral arbiter respected by all should not have to suffer the indignities of being bugged by anybody.

I sense that this most recent scandal might leave a few pigeon droppings on the Bushies. We'll see.
