Uncle Al KBE is still working at nearly 70, so I suppose he doesn't see why people should expect to quit work and live on the taxpayer just because they reach 65 or some other arbitrary age.
I do. The immigrants have produced nothing for the country so the oldies should reap the benefits of having created an economic powerhouse over the lifetimes. They should be repaid the value of the assets of the country.
We have the same ridiculous situation here. We have swarms of Chinese moving in and being given, for zero charge, all the assets I've produced over my lifetime, and all the assets produced over my parents' lifetimes, and their parents' lifetimes. Not to mention the value of the estates which have intrinsic value, such as clean air, beautiful country, clean water.
Immigrants should bid for a limited number of citizenships each year. I think something like US$1 million would be about the right price.
The country would have a stock market in citizenship. People who want to leave could sell their citizenship. People would soon stop bidding for policies which reduce the value of their citizenship.
Bidders would have to be qualified [no AIDS, no sars, no tuberculosis, no criminal record, educated enough, young enough - Islamic Jihad need not apply etc].

PS: It's very rude of you to call him "Greenspan". In some cultures, people learn to respect their elders and superiors. Barbarian cultures don't have that civilization which makes life good. You should call him Mr Greenspan Sir and bow while you address him. |
