Now since Bush didn't get covered last time and he is running against a Viet Nam hero

Ahem. Methinks the gentleman doth protest too much. And I'm not referring to President Bush. John Kerry spent the 70s as Jane Fonda, and now he wants to run as John Wayne (the line is not original, but a good one). Karl Rove has not yet begun to explore Kerry's Jane Fonda problem. When he does, I think Senator Kerry will wish he had shut up about Bush's National Guard days now, and saved the stuff for later.

Even so, it's pretty weak gruel. What's the maximum wrong-doing alleged? That Bush didn't show up for a few National Guard drills when he should have, and they let him slide by anyway? Try as they might, the WaPo and the NYT are not going to be able to make a Federal case out of that. The same American people who said that the Monica thing was not worth impeaching a president over will look at this and say, Oh puh-lease. But we will certainly see some of Kerry's juicier baby-killer remarks from 1971 recycled. We'll see how they play.
