UMC profits NT$331.6 million from AUO share sales

United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC) today announced that it has sold 14.9 million common shares of TFT-LCD maker AU Optronics (AUO) at NT$36.4 per share from September 8, 2003 to February 25, 2004, according to a company filing with the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TSE).

UMC profited NT$331.6 million from the transaction and now holds 399 million common shares, 9.2% of AUO.
