Hello Laura, long time no see.

There are actually two sides to the prison labor article. Is it better for the inmates to work or do nothing? And, in fact, they needn't have been paid, but they were. The state could have collected all the revenue which they made and kept it --- or given it to Dick Cheney.

Nevertheless, the article does highlight the predicament which the US worker finds himself in. And, indeed, not only the American worker. Wages here in South Africa, effectively a third world country, have been pushed to such heights by the trades unions and government legislation that SA production is totally uneconomic and uncompetitive. Thus it is no surprise that unemployment here is something like 40% --- of the so-called employables, and factories are closing all the time.

Keep well --- and don't be too naughty!
