It is not a wisecrack it is an accurate description of what you are proposing.

The New Testament is the foundation of Christianity. Not peace love and happiness, not be kind to your brothers, not turn the other cheek ... the New Testament.

And you expect Christians to regulate it to "just a book" category? And favor "historical" texts that are in conflict with it? That would eviscerate the religion, there would be NOTHING LEFT.

The gospels are the foundation of Christianity, they cannot simply be ignored.
