I really don't know, but I would assume that when measuring money leaving the market, they are taking into account the money coming into it as well so the figure would mean that there are X number more dollars leaving than entering. I listened to all the commentary on CNN and have read quite a few posts and I guess most everyone is re-evluating their positions. I would share the sentiment that there has been some change in market sentiment - still bullish - but having a greater awareness that things cannot continue as previously as growth rates cannot continue at past rates nor at the rates that analysts would like. I have no real economic justification for this, just some common sense informed by reports from companies that while still making nice profits growth rates will slow (Microsoft,Gilette, Coke, among others). I agree with Sonny that these are still good investments, but buying at these high multiples may be a bit tricky in the short term and intermediate term.

For me, I am primarily in LEAPS and some shorter term options. I will have to look all this over and try to develop a strategy to move the shorter term options (October) into LEAPS. If I was more sophisticated, I might be able to do puts, but basically I have been doing ok hanging onto longer termed LEAPS.

Hope Monday or Tuesday brings better news.
