HAITI

Re Barthos Article:

<COPY>
"Aristide is undeniably a divisive, imperious figure who relies on violent gangs of supporters, having disbanded the coup-prone army. He has failed dismally to bring Haiti the peace and prosperity he promised.

But he also represents Haiti's democratic breakthrough, having been freely elected in 1990 and again in 2000. His term ends next year."

Barthos is pretty loose with the facts. First of all, Aristide got 92% of the popular vote last election. The disputed elections that are often cited in the propagandistic U.S. media were 8 Senate races that occurred at a different time. Though you would never be able to figure that out by reading the bogus U.S. press.

Aristide didn't "fail to bring the peace and prosperity" to Haiti. Aristide was sandbagged by the World Bank on a promised $500 Million loan. And the U.S. impose trade sanctions that were extremely prejudiced against Aristide's efforts at normalizing Haiti's economy.

Furthermore, the right wing para-militaries and death squads have been covertly supported by the CIA and NED, the National Endowment for Democracy.

Aristide is being targetted by the Bushista Junta. Why doesn't the media report this? Oh, never mind. The truth isn't something that the media has anything to do with in America any longer.
