Pilate's wife Claudia is considered a saint in the Greek Orthodox Church, and both Pilate and his wife are saints in the Abyssinian and Coptic Churches. This is based on a letter attributed to Claudia dating from the first century. This is based on the belief that she and/or he converted to Christianity and died as martyrs.

There are a number of saints who started out mistreating Christians but converted. The most significant is Paul of Tarsus.
