I don't think it's a shame that Hutton Gibson's opinions are made public, nor that they are castigated, but I think it's a shame that they are being visited on his son.

Just out of curiosity, if your father believed something that you don't believe, would you say that he was lying to you, or would you say, instead, that he was mistaken or wrong?

When I was a kid, my father to a great extent, and my mother to a lesser extent, were racists. We had separate plates and cups for our black servants. My father still isn't terribly fond of black people. Does that make him a liar?
