I'm not irrationally fearful so I'm not sure where you came up with the notion that my fear is not proportional to my risk? I don't walk around with a loaded gun looking for terrorist types or lock my doors at night for fear that terrorists will come in the middle of the night and slaughter my family.

I recognize my risk level is low and I'm fully aware that there really isn't much that I can do personally to stop an attack on my neighborhood or my country and that is where our vulnerability lies as a nation. I recognize that I don't know the full extent of that threat, and I don't expect I would ever be privy to the details. I am relieved to know that there are individuals taking responsibility for our nation's safety seriously. And even though I realize they may not thwart every attack, I think the groups responsible for our safety are intelligent and alert, and that they are trying to do what needs doing in order to prevent such future events. They are one of the main reasons we have not been attacked since 9/11 imo.

The world markets can be manipulated to a certain extent, and I wouldn't put it past a few of our "allies" to try to devalue the dollar through price control of oil. A dirty bomb set off near our mints could certainly damage our economy for quite awhile.

I honestly wake up every morning and turn on the news to see if our country has been attacked again. I expect that some day I will find that it has. It is something that concerns me deeply, and I don't feel like that is an unreasonable perspective at all to expect our nation's safety to be the #1 priority of government.
