I am not at all surprised that we kept it civil - Lindy would boot us ASAP if we weren't. ;^)

But I've seen some awfully nasty debates about the movie on other websites - the nastiest seem to be between Catholics and Protestants! Not what you'd think either - Gibson's fathers's views on the Catholic Church are quite offensive to a lot of mainstream Catholics. He thinks that the present day Vatican (since Vatican II) is evil, and that every Pope from that day to this day is actually an anti-Pope.

So a lot of Catholics were afraid that the movie would have very weird doctrines, and tarred Mel with his father's beliefs about the Catholic church just as he's been tarred with his father's beliefs about the Holocaust.

Protestants, on the other hand, have no problem with rejecting the Vatican.

Go figure.
