Morris: Bush Approval Rating Plummeting While he Fundraises Monday, Oct. 28, 2002 9:52 p.m. EST
A new Fox News Dynamics poll set for release Tuesday shows that President Bush's job approval numbers are plummeting.
"There has been a major development in the polling, according to the Fox News poll that was completed on Friday," former White House political guru Dick Morris told Fox News Channel's "Hannity & Colmes."
"Bush has really been hit in the last two weeks with a big fall," the top strategist revealed.
According to numbers cited by Morris, Bush's overall job approval has plunged a full six points since mid-October and now stands at 60 percent.
Bush's centerpiece policy has fared even worse, with a ten point drop in support for the war against Iraq, which now stands at 62 percent.
And support for Bush's handling of the economy is now 48 percent, an eight point drop in the last two weeks.
Morris said that the erosion in the president's approval numbers has less to do with policy questions than it does with Bush's decision to hit the campaign trail, which makes him look less presidential.
"Bush, on the one hand, is telling the American people that we have this super-crisis with Iraq," the top consultant explained. "And then he futzes with Paris and the United Nations, he campaigns in South Carolina and across the country eating rubber chicken, and he's not acting like a president whose country is under siege."
* In this show, Morris calculated that Bush had spend 20% of his time in office fundraising. |
