The war hero became a "war hero" by getting shot down in his plane.... Will not belittle his service to his country and will thank him for it instead, but unless he was recognized for heroism we are only being polite when we call him a hero....

So only medals get recognized? Any veteran can tell you what an unreliable standard that is. BTW, Bob Dole was not a pilot. He was in the Army, got wounded in combat in Italy, collected 2 Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star, and lost the use of his right arm permanently. Does that qualify for 'war hero' in your eyes?

I supported the "draft dodger" as you say...Now, your point in asking the question was????


You sounded so keen on military heroism as a necessary prerequisite for being Commander in Chief that I thought surely you would have supported the war hero over the draft-dodger. If you call the President "AWOL" over the (unproven) possibility that he skipped a National Guard drill or two, and despise him for being in the Guard and not in 'Nam, I thought you must surely regard Bill Clinton draft-avoidance machinations with scorn...but I was wrong, it seems.

Guess war-hero status is only a big deal when the Democrat has it and the Republican doesn't.

May I suggest that it would be more relevant to the campaign to look at the candidates' political records for the last twenty years, instead of fixating on what they did over thirty years ago?
