"US sidesteps full landmines ban"

Good.

"The Bush administration is today expected to announce a change to its landmine policy but not join the 150 nations who have sworn off using them forever.

Lets see how many of them actually never use them again.

"We have a great deal of momentum everywhere else around the world. The US is the only country in Nato that hasn't banned this weapon. We have a situation where the US is undermining the international norm against this weapon," he said.

The US, at least in modern times. Has been one of the most careful users of land mines. We primarily use them in areas like the DMZ in Korea where civilians are unlikely to wander around. It makes no sense to remove them from that area. Meanwhile instead of signing a treaty or rhetorically blasting land mines we are the primary removers of land mines in the world and do more to make the world safer from dangerous land mines than any one of those 150 nations signing the treaty.
