Of course, I understand why critics might see this film as "too violent," since for a while I too wondered why every inch of Jesus' body had to be laced with cuts and whipmarks. And then my wife pointed it out, that if you imagine every cut to be representative of one of my sins, then there's no way Jesus can have even one square inch of uninjured flesh. That's when it hit me, especially as I too often take my faith in Jesus for granted.

I am seeing it tonite.....with a faithful Catholic as well as lapsed one......should be interesting.

However, I don't agree with the concept that each lash mark represents someone's sin. I think if the torture and whipping were that brutal, and frankly, all we have are the words of his disciples who at times could be very unreliable [see Judas and Peter], then its more a reflection of the wrath and anger of the religious and pagan leaders of that time. The religion men......because JC threatened their position and the pagan/Roman leaders because he was unimpressed with their power.

To claim that this was the work of God is extremely disturbing since God is supposed to be a superior being. I just don't buy it. JC may have died for our sins but I believe how he died was the work of cruel and angry men who were obsessed with his death, not God.

In any case, I plan to eat lightly before the film. Violence doesn't usually get to me but if the commercials for the film are any indication, this one's over the top.

I'm glad you liked it.
