Do you think you can find one instance of the Supreme Court pushing religion (Christian or?) out of the everyday life of citizens prior to the late 1900's? Most of these artifacts of Christianity or Judaeo-Christian legacy are not new. Kicking out ALL prayer was extreme and actually showed that government had no business regulating education. It was too large a portion of the community life to sterilize with prohibitions. What is freedom if you have to ask permission.

I still believe the admonition was strictly referring to sects (Lutherans, Episcopalians, Catholics, etc.) of Christianity and there is evidence of this in the writings of the founders. The general influence of Christianity was and is the cornerstone of this country, ask DeTocqueville. It still is, you just may not like the message of those whose voice is out of proportion to their actual influence (Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell are the Orthodox Jews of Christianity). Some of the pioneers of Silicon Valley were from Community Church areas in the midwest and brought that church influence into the workplace (Philip Noyce, for example), These churches were self-contained and many shared the work normally done by priests or ministers, in other words there was no universal dogma but concerned pragmatic use moral teaching.
