Lizzie, here is an interesting article on the impact of outsourcing. It is from an Indian newspaper. It rightly points out that the benefits of outsourcing are realized only when there is a "job churning". When you loose 3 million jobs and outsource them to markets where it is competitive you also create 3 million new ones in cutting edge sectors. YOu do so via job retraining programs, close coupling with the industry and the educational institutions etc. Clinton did that very well and pushed the US into economic prosperity. Maintained US edge in the world. Bush on the other hand has failed to not only create new jobs but has failed to even identify the sectors that he needs to create new jobs in. This is understandable coming from a former oil man surrounded by people from the aluminum and rail road industries. But I don't think it is desireable in a Presidency.
