Amy Re..It's important to realize that there are a substantial number of liberal Jews (in fact, most Israelis in hightech appear to be liberal, which doesn't make being liberal more right or more wrong). But it's very important to realize there indeed are liberal Jews and quite a large number of them too. It's incorrect to think all Jews are conservative.

Frankly, I think the assumption most Jews are conservative, comes from the assumption, most Jews are more religious than the average American; and therefore side with the religious right. AFAIK, most Jews have more Democratic tendencies , than rep. ones. And both parties, Rep. and Dems, have supported Israel; so support of Israel isn't the vote getter, one might think.
