It is certainly a pleasure to hear the Press admit to having failed to check out their stories and thus contributing to the misunderstanding.
It is true they had a problem , and the best outside (or inside) information they had was the UN Inpectors reports.
There was proof that he continued to pursue WMD's, as even David Kay stated, and only a fool would conclude that he had changed his evil ways and was therefore no longer a risk.
As far as the Press being inclined to support the Administration, I never got that impression at any time, beginning with the chad counting in Florida, and continuing until this day -the inadequate troops at the beginning of the conflict, the bogging down after only 2 weeks of conflict- questioning the legal status of the War and the treatment of prisoners.
Does this sound like a Press being bought off ?
