Years ago we used to have more hunting accidents in this area then we do now. You could count on opening day that at least one idiot from Chicago would be walking the RR tracks, knock down a pheasant and attempt to finish it off by hitting it with the butt of his gun. Shell in chamber, safety off, muzzle 6" from his chest and he's pounding his gun butt on the ground.

I did get shot once dove hunting. Some guy was at the entry point to the field, not on the firing line and it was 15 minutes before shooting time. I said hello and told him I was going to put a decoy behind the firing line to bring more birds to the area. I walked 20 yards, clipped the decoy to a sunflower plant with the guy watching, 10 more yards and BLAM, he shoots the decoy and me right in the back. I was stunned for a couple of minutes on the ground. Luckily I was wearing a vest and it was #8 shot so the guys at the ranger station were able to pick the shot out of my skin but the bastards wouldn't tell me the guy's name.
