from personal experience, i can tell you that it's almost impossible for a technician to help you with a problem like yours without seeing what's on the screen and being able to hit keys after they see something that is meaningful to them, but not to you.

so, it seems that your choices are (i) take it somewhere to get fixed if you absolutely need your data, e.g. you run a business on it or (ii) if not, start over.

the important point is to know what to do next time - - norton, defrag once a month, backup system, fix as soon as things go awry.
