"A masked Hamas militant sets up a makeshift mortar launcher against Israeli forces, unseen, as Palestinian youths try to cover him from the sight of the forces during an incursion in a Gaza city's neighbourhood, Wednesday Feb. 11, 2004."
Standard procedure for Hamas. The only unusual thing is, AP took a picture. Usually, pictures from Pal areas come from Palestinian Reuters stringers, who carefully obey the PA guidelines for photographers, one of which is, not too many pictures of kids, and only as brave little rock-throwers, never in the company of gunmen. And no pictures of gunmen, period. Doesn't jive with the "helpless & desperate" party line.
So Hamas starts firing at the IDF, the IDF returns fire, aiming carefully at the gunman. If the IDF soldier hits a child anyway, the BBC headline the next day will read,
"Israelis kill Palestinian boy, 11"
and perhaps they will mention in the 17th paragraph that the Israelis were answering incoming fire, but probably they won't. |
