These are extreme cases as South Africa also was when Apartheid ended.

But in those cases, they return as soon as they discover that:

1) That they will be second-class citizens and their status will be lower.

2) The taxman is voracious and there is no way for them to cheat him as done at home.

3) There is no maid to cook food and to baby seat

A hundred years ago, a family would move to a developed country and would improve through social mobility, over a period of several generations. This is not going to happen. Move to developed country and one will get stuck. Those countries are stagnated.
