Every country in the world is socialist, including ours. Just a matter of degrees. Some say the Bushies are deliberately trying to bankrupt Social Security and Medicare so they can minimize social programs in this country and transfer the money into private hands. So far that seems accurate.

The problem there is that the private sector has shown they are much more likely to rip off that money. The government is a much safer entity to handle these life and death social programs so many people depend on to survive. They may waste some but they don't rip it off. The private sector is all about making profits and they also have more license to steal. I don't want anyone to profit off or steal my tax money. Do you? That is a tax on the tax, if you see what I mean. A double-tax which is what Bushies are always arguing against. When Bush's HMO friends make a 25% profit off Medicare, they're taking that money out of our public wealth and tax dollars. So that's a double tax.
"Socialism" therefore can be the safest most cost efficient way of doing things.

If you don't believe this look at what happened when New Mexico privatized its prison system. Ripoffs galore. And look at Halliburton, Enron, the S+L's, etc. You really think we can trust corporations with our public money?
