Actually I'm a major capitalist. But the two can and do co-exist eveywhere around the world.

Bush is the biggest government spender in history. No matter who is president now they will be. Therefore to dream of America without socialism is just a silly fantasy. Just our military alone is a HUGE social program affecting and paying for tens of millions of people. Then there are the states programs and local programs. All socialism.

You should travel more. You will get over your fear of socialism fast. Counties like Switzerland for instance are socialist and run very smoothly. The UK, Canada both doing somewhat better than we are now. Both socialist countries. And we are losing ground to them in terms of standard of living.

What I am more afraid of is too much corporate power over our lives, deregulation and privatization which are PROVEN to invite huge ripoff artists as it did during the S+L debacle, Enron and phony energy crisis. 500 billion ripped off just from those corporate/political scams alone.

You can distrust socialism, but then what do you replace it with? Social programs are clearly often the lesser of two evils, and the most trustworthy way of doing things. At least they are acountable to the people and elected officials. Corporate power is not.

How do you feel about privatizing the military? Well Bushies are starting to do that. Look at Halliburton. And of course they are ripping us off already. Of course. What do you expect?
