The Greater Boston rental market is a disaster. I just sold a home and moved to an apartment building in the same town. The management just put a sign up between my two front windows advertising apartments for rent. I have lived here for 43 years and have never seen a sign on these buidings. The owner told me in August that he hadn't had real vacancies for 15 years. My daughter tells me that the same situation is true in all the towns west of Boston. We have friends who live in an area of upscale apartment buildings on Commonwealth Ave in Boston and they tell me they are all offering rental concessions and all sorts of incentives to fill vacancies. Nobody has been able to explain to me why this situation has had no apparent effect on the residential real estate market.
