Hey Tom, I'm glad you had a good time in Scotland.

I've never listened to Genesis except for a song on the radio
now and then. Thier musical sound isn't much to my taste, so it's fun to
find out I like the lyrics. I do remember hearing that song and enjoying it.
Very powerful and well-told, imo. And an all too common theme for poeple
I've known who've chosen a life at odds with family expectations and/or
who needed to get away from a bad home situation. "How dare you leave us
to sink alone in our misery and go make a decent life for yourself!", or
something to that effect.

I picked the next poem/lyric for the theme of sailing and pirates. Nothing
to do with dogs.(g)

A Salty Dog
by Procul Harum

"All hands on deck,
we've run afloat!"
I heard the Captain cry
"Explore the ship, replace the cook
Let no one leave alive!".
Across the straits, around the Horn
How far can sailors fly?
A twisted path, our tortured course
And no one left alive

We sailed for parts, unknown to man,
Where ships come home to die.
No lofty peak, nor fortress bold
Could match our Captain's eye.
Upon the seventh seasick day
We made our port of call.
The sands so white, and sea so blue,
No mortal place at all.

We fired the guns, and burnt the mast,
And rowed from ship to shore.
The Captain cried, we sailors wept,
Our tears were tears of joy.
How many moons, and many Junes,
Have passed since we made land.
Salty Dog, the seaman's log
You're witness to my own hand.
