No. Importing oil provides an economic benefit for the US. If it was not beneficial it would not be imported. Using the oil we produce goods and services worth more then the oil costs. If we didn't import the oil we would produce less goods and services. Another way to say that we would produce less goods and services is to say that our GDP would shrink, another way to state it is that our economy would get smaller, or simply put we would be poorer.

It was the end of the Roman Republic and the disappearance of representative government on earth for almost 1,700 years, until the English Civil Wars in the 1600s. That is the reality we are confronting today—offering up our democracy in propitiation to an Empire for Oil.

Nonsense.
