Holy Cow! There was once water on Mars? Whodathunkit?

Am I the only one who finds this exercise in self-justification by the NASA bureaucracy to be just a bit over the top?

Monty Python had a sketch about the Department of Silly Walks. To me, the Rovers are a Department of Silly Saunterings.

Today, curiously, Mars is better explored and better catalogued than the abyssal plains of the mid-Pacific.

Considering the potential utility of either resource, one has to wonder how we manage to set our priorities.
